CUBA REGRET DAMAGE CAUSED BY HURRICANE FIONA IN THE CARIBBEAN

The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, expressed his condolences and solidarity with the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, for the loss of human lives and the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona. On his Twitter account, he conveyed his sorrow to the peoples and authorities of both nations, as well as to relatives and relatives of the victims. Fiona left at least five dead as she passed through the Caribbean: one in Guadeloupe, two in Puerto Rico and two in the Dominican Republic. (LP)

PARLIAMENTARIANS OF VENEZUELA AND COLOMBIA WILL MEET AT THE BORDER

The president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, reported that parliamentarians from his country and Colombia will hold a meeting on the common border, after the reestablishment of bilateral relations. He explained that the exchange will take place on September 25, one day before the border reopens, between Táchira and Cúcuta. It is expected that deputies from the border areas of Venezuela and the Second Commission of the Colombian Congress will participate in the meeting, according to Rodríguez. (Telesur)

CHINA WARNS ABOUT FOREIGN WARSHIPS IN TAIWAN

The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) reported that it mobilized its air and naval troops to monitor the passage of warships from the United States and Canada through the Taiwan Strait last Tuesday. They claimed that they would “counter all threats and provocations”. The US and Canadian ships crossed the region two days after US President Joe Biden promised to defend Taiwan if a war broke out with the Asian giant. (Telesur)

THE UNITED STATES EXPANDS ITS MILITARY PRESENCE IN GREECE

The United States expressed its interest in establishing a military base in the Greek port of Alexandroupoli, located 40 kilometers from the border with Turkey. The proposal consists of deepening and enlarging the port, and possibly even creating a new pier, necessary to dock and service the US fleet’s Arleigh Burke-type destroyers. These destroyers carry guided missiles and have very high electronic warfare capabilities. According to Greek media, NATO has used Alexandroupolis as an alternative route for the passage of weapons to the Bosphorus Strait, closed by Turkey, in addition to thousands of US soldiers, tanks, helicopters and other equipment.
