Dembélé: “From 2017 to 2021 I constantly wasted time”

Ousmane Dembele He is a completely different person than he was a year ago. From ostracism due to injuries he has become a fundamental piece for Xavi at Barcelona, in addition to returning to the French team right on the last list before the World Cup. In an interview on the program “Rothen s’enflamme”, the former Rennes player confessed that he lost time from 2017 to 2021, in addition to being honest about his short-term goals.

“From 2017 to 2021 I constantly lost time due to injuries”, acknowledged Dembélé, who spoke about the Koeman-Xavi transition and how he dealt with injuries to return to the highest level: “I had many hamstring injuries. So I had to work. I was often told: ‘if you don’t work, you will stagnate’. If you don’t get stronger, you will get injured.” And then something happened, with Koeman, and with Xavi it was even better. Since then, I have not had any injuries. We’re always crossing our fingers, we keep working and then it goes well for me, I feel good at Barcelona, I have the confidence of the whole team, the whole club, and I’m happy. It’s good because I’ve been through a lot in the last five years, now everyone talks about football, it’s all better”.

About his personal life, he assured that “he was young like everyone else. But I managed to get out of this situation. However, not everything is as people imagined.

In turn, the Barcelona attacker confessed that his priority objective is to win the Champions League with Barcelona: “With Xavi’s confidence, I was forced to stay. Personally, I want to win the Champions League with Barcelona. That Barcelona win the Champions League again because they haven’t won it for seven years. Winning titles, the League, the Champions League, that’s the most important thing”.

On the field, we get along very well. I know his qualities and he knows mine. We have played 4 or 5 games together, and he has done very well for us. I remember the games against England or against Italy before the World Cup. I want to do everything possible to be in the team as long as possible.”.
