Everything indicates that Fernando Gaviria’s stage in the UAE Team Emirates is coming to an end. The cyclist would not renew his bond with the United Arab Emirates team and would change teams for the next season. In Italy they report a possible destination for the 28-year-old sprinter.
According to Giro Scognamiglio, a journalist from The Gazzetta dello Sport, Gaviria “will not continue with the UAE” and “could join the Movistar Team” once his current contract ends in December this year. He would wear the jersey of the Spanish team from 2023.
If this transfer takes place, The Antioquia runner would join a squad that currently has two Colombians on its payroll, Einer Rubio and Iván Ramiro Sosa. In recent years they have also passed through Movistar Nairo Quintana, who won a Giro d’Italia and a Vuelta a España, and Miguel Ángel López, among others.
In this 2022, GAviria has two stage wins, both at the Tour of Oman in February. In this competition he won the first and last fraction. Throughout his professional career he has also won stages in the Giro and Tour de France. Fernando would leave the UAE Team Emirates after 3 seasons, since he arrived in 2019 after passing through the Quick-Step.
On the other hand, this same Tuesday, the UAE officially announced the addition of Adam Yates, Egan Bernal’s partner in the Ineos Grenadiers, for the next three years, signing a contract until 2025 with the British cyclist.
