The first meeting between Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela, and his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, will take place on September 26 when the border between both countries is reopened.

This was announced by the Minister of Transport of Colombia, Guillermo Reyes, after holding a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Ramón Velásquez Araguayán. It may be on the Simón Bolívar bridge itself.

“On the 26th the two presidents, President Nicolás Maduro and our president Gustavo Petro, may, at a point to be determined, surely it will be the Simón Bolívar bridge, where this opening act will take place. (…) What has been said is that the two presidents of our countries will be at the opening ceremony,” Transport Minister Guillermo Reyes told Colombian media.

At the meeting it was also confirmed that the “inaugural” flight will be Caracas-Valencia-Bogotá, that same day, September 26. While the first commercial flight will be with the Wingo airline next Monday, October 3.

Regarding international bridges, he reported that the crossing of trucks and merchandise will be at night-early morning, while the pedestrian crossing will take place during the day, beginning with the Simón Bolívar international bridge.

For this Wednesday, it is also expected that technical commissions from both countries will review the five bridges between the states of Táchira and Apure on the Venezuelan side.
