A Russian television presenter caused a great controversy when she said that Russia must have bombed United Kingdom with nuclear weapons during the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, last Monday.
Olga Skabeyeva, known as Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “iron doll,” was on his prime-time television show with Andrey Gurulev, a retired Russian general and current deputy.
Gurulev alluded to statements by US President Joe Biden, who warned Putin against the use of chemical weapons. “If Russian territory is threatened, we have the right to use nuclear weapons,” he argued. However, he denied that Russia plans to attack Ukraine with such weapons. “What makes you think we would launch a nuclear attack on Ukraine? We would still have to live there, in Ukraine”.
Instead, he mentioned how other targets in the sights of Russia the American air base in Germany, Ramstein. “But why would we bomb Ukraine or Germany? There is Britain, the root of evil.”
It was at that moment that Skabeyeva said: “We should have done it today [lunes]. All the important people are there for the funeral.”
The queen’s funeral was attended by leaders such as the president of the United States, Joe Biden; the Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. British Prime Minister Liz Truss was also there.
Gurulev bet on “bleeding” the United Kingdom and turning it into a “martian wasteland with few Russian attacks”. He assured that, after such an intervention, NATO’s article 5 – which defends collective security – would be useless and the organization “would go backwards”.
