“The plane is unreliable and dangerous…”: the confession of the pilot who was able to prevent the tragic death of Emiliano Sala

By then Emiliano Sala had become one of the most effective strikers in French football. The Argentine had four auspicious seasons as a scorer for Nantes, scoring more than 40 goals, so that Cardiff City sought to take his aim to the Premier League.

Thus, after saying goodbye to his teammates and the fans, the Argentine got on a plane to Cardiff. However, on January 21, 2019, the radars lost track of the ship in the English Channel.

Specifically, the private plane that was transporting Sala was lost about 20 kilometers north of the English island of Guernsey.

After an intense search, first on January 30 possible remains of the aircraft were found, and a few days later, on February 3, it was confirmed that it was indeed the Piper PA-46 Malibu plane, registration N264DB, at the bottom of the sea.

Inside, was the body of Emiliano Sala, who was finally buried on February 16 in the town of Progreso. The Argentine later reported The Sunwould have suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning before dying in the tragic accident.

Now more background is known. The BBC He revealed in the last hours an audio to which he had access where you can hear the pilot David Ibbotson confirming to a friend the poor condition of the plane… that is, a test that could change everything.

“The plane is unreliable” and “I will wear my life jacket”, were two of the forceful phrases that Ibbotson pronounced in the conversation.

He also confirms that a few days before, on his previous flight, he heard an explosion inside the aircraft: “I was in the middle of the English Channel and I heard a ‘bang’. I didn’t know what was happening. I took the opportunity to review everything, I checked my parameters. Since everything was fine, I kept flying. But it really caught my attention.”
