Diabetes is a common disease that appears due to insufficient insulin in the body, as well as excess sugar in the blood. Given this, it can develop serious health problems for those who suffer from it, such as cardiovascular or even kidney diseases.

However, since the banana is a vital food in Colombian cuisine, used in hundreds of preparations, many wonder if it can be consumed by a person with diabetes.

The answer varies depending on the type of banana that is specified, although green bananas are characterized by being “salty”, when they ripen they become sweet, like bananas, which are generally eaten ripe, and are even used in some desserts and juices to add freshness and sweetness.

However, they would not represent a danger for diabetics.

In addition, fruits and vegetables help prevent the onset of other diseases such as cancer or heart problems, the risk of which increases when suffering from diabetes”, confirmed the mentioned portal on bananas, emphasizing that although it is a good option, it is also better limit your consumption.

On the other hand, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK, for its acronym in English) of the United States, stated that when a person has high levels of sugar in his body, he can develop heart disease, eye problems, foot problems, strokes, dental disease, kidney disease, and nerve damage, among others.

And I add, Although there is no cure for diabetes, people with diabetes can take steps to control their disease and stay healthy. emphasizing that a balanced diet low in carbohydrates, sugary foods, trans fats and a constant exercise routine can combat this diagnosis.
